First 5 Things Your Guests Notice
1. Smell:
Have you ever walked into the front door of a friends house and immediately had the smell just hits you in the face? There is no avoiding it, every home has it, some are good, some are...not so good. When you’re preparing for guests be aware of your own homes odors, give each common area room a spritz of a light weight perfume or Febreeze quickly to at least blanket the smell of pets or just plain stagnant air! Or burn candles which also help create ambiance to your home.
2. Pet Hair:
Floaters. It happens. We naturally become calloused to our own pets hair in our house just because we are used to it, but more often than not its one of the first things your guests will notice. Before anyone comes over, do a quick vacuum of the carpets and use the nozzle to suck up any runners in the crease between baseboards and the floor and in the corners of the room where they tend to collect the most often. It should be pretty obvious if any large collections are drifting across your hard woods floors, at least scoop those up if you don’t have time for a full sweep!
3. No Natural Light:
If friends are visiting during the day, pull back the shades and let the light shine in! Oh Lort, let that light shine in. People tend to notice messes less if there is natural light shining through the windows- its almost a distraction. So distract away! That’s a fast way to clean, am I right?! If you don’t have natural light, fake it. Turn on lamps and to create a comforting atmosphere or the over head lights if you are entertaining more than a couple close friends.
4. Plants & Flowers:
Adding a bouquet of flowers to your house is always a nice way to add freshness and color to your space. Even in the blistering cold of winter, if you throw a quick vase together its sure to be a talking point!
5. A Dirty Bathroom:
Guests will 100% notice a dirty bathroom 100% of the time. Do a quick run through of your bathroom before guests come over, clean the toilets, close the shower curtain, toss your dirty towels in the hamper and wipe down the sink. PUT OUT A HAND TOWEL. Don’t make your guests dry their hands on their pants!! They probably wont comment on a tidy bathroom, but the last thing you want is for them to leave and comment about your dirty one.
