Bathroom Clutter Breakdown

1.      Clean out your towels.

Every family has them, towels from years ago that keep making it into the rotation. If you have old dingy towels with frayed edges, or that don’t seem to come clean, toss them and start with a new batch. You should be swapping your towels about every two years, they collect bacteria that washing alone cant get rid of!

2.      Limit supplies on counter tops:

Or at least the visibility of all of them. I know that its inconvenient to have all your hair supplies or facial cleansers in a drawer but find a small cabinet with drawers that you can put things in rather then having them displayed across the vanity top. This will help you feel less anxious, and may even save you time in the morning when you’re getting ready. Once you start to notice which items you use most often, put the others that you use only once in a while away in a closet or under the sink.

3.      Display items with the same color in glass:

Cotton balls and Q-Tips can be easily on hand and a nice touch to have a “lived in feel” in the bathroom without being overwhelming. Find a glass (or clear plastic) tornadoes or vases to store them in, or create a tier system for a layered effect. You can usually find candle stick holders for relatively inexpensive or find them at a yard sale and get the hot glue gun out! Once you have the cotton in them you wont be able to tell that they are homemade!

4.      Clean out your products:

Who doesn’t have drawers full of old toiletries?! Once a year (or 6 months if your ambitious) go through your drawers or the “catch all bin” you keep old products in. Toss sample shampoo bottles you get from hotels (unless youre actually going to use them) old nail polishes, nearly empty bottles of product and the like. Rid your cupboards of anything you aren’t actually going to use, be realistic while flashy blue eyeliner may be fading are you going to use it?

5.      Clean your shower:

I fall victim to having 4 sets of shampoos and conditioners always open and I cant be the only one. They sneak up on us and before you know it you have tons of mostly used bottles in the shower. Get rid of anything with less than one use left (or make a point to use them next to not waste it). Throw old razors and old soaps that aren’t being used, and give the shower a good scrub.

6.      Check kids bath toys:

While it seems that those are the toys that would be the cleanest in the house, the opposite is true. Stagnant soap causes mold in old toys, check all of your kids play things and toss any that look like they are getting worn or have mold collecting in them.
