5 Ways To Do Bold Colors
Make your room stand out with a rich color that demands attention! Paired with the right neutral color pallet, having statement pieces that stand out can upgrade a casual room into one that says WOW! Consider these ideas to add subtle changes that make a huge statement:
1. A BOLD couch
Lately bright furniture pieces have been the forefront of all magazines and home make over shows. Adding a dark green velvet couch to a neutral room may seem a little too high risk, but paired with the right complimentary pieces it is nothing to shy away from. Keep other elements of the room relatively neutral to not overwhelm the eyes, grey walls or earthy tones tend to relax the mind and accentuate the pop of color properly. If the couch has metal details, carry that throughout the room to create consistency.
2. An accent wall:
Love color. Do it. But don’t overwhelm. Instead of painting the whole room a bright color, choose one wall (usually with the smallest amount of wall space) and go to town! Be sure to keep the other walls more neutral but within the same color pallet, don’t combine a cool shade with a warm shade or it will seem unbalanced.
3. Bright details:
If you’re feeling a little timid about going big, keep your bolds on the safe side by adding in colors to the accents of the room rather than to the larger pieces. Matching a bright rug with couch pillows is a quick way to add the fun color without too much risk. When you get bored with it it’s a quick adjustment to switch it out for another color!
4. A bright door:
Painting a bedroom door a bold color allows for creative freedom without changing the dynamic of the other connecting rooms. Blush colors in the bedrooms is beneficial for keeping the space from being overwhelming and a place for the mind to rest, but allows for it to stand out!
5. Give old furniture a face lift!
Have an old buffet that doesn’t get much love anymore? Or a book shelve that goes unnoticed against a wall? Get your paint brush out and give it a new life! Get creative with a dark teal or bright yellow and watch as the dusty old piece becomes the new focal point of the room!
